Asperger Syndrome

It is a mild autism spectrum condition where the individual's intelligence and language development are completely normal (even above normal), but they experience great difficulties in social relationships, reading facial expressions, and understanding metaphors.

In classic autism, a child may not speak even by age 3, eye contact is zero, and mental developmental delay may accompany it.
A child with Asperger's, on the other hand, starts speaking like a nightingale on time. Their intelligence is bright. The problem is not that they cannot speak, but that they do not know what, where, and how to speak (e.g., they might start reciting encyclopedic information at a funeral).

1. They do not understand metaphors: When you say 'it's raining cats and dogs', they literally look for cats and dogs falling from the sky (Concrete/literal thinking). They do not understand jokes and sarcasm.
2. Social Blindness: They cannot read from body language if the other person is bored, crying, or angry (Difficulty with empathy).
3. Monotone Voice: When speaking, their tone of voice is robotic or emotionless like a news anchor.
4. Routine Dependency: If the position of an item at home changes or if they take a different route to school, they suffer a meltdown (tantrum).

Individuals with Asperger's usually have a narrow but extremely deep area of interest. For example, a 6-year-old child; can know by heart like an encyclopedia the serial numbers of all aircraft engines in the world, the bone structures of dinosaurs, or the arrival-departure times of subways. Thanks to this power of focus, when they grow up, they can become excellent software developers, engineers, or scientists (Elon Musk has announced that he has Asperger's syndrome).

It is usually noticed at school age (when the child cannot socialize with other children, breaks the rules). The diagnosis is made by a Child Psychiatrist through developmental tests and clinical observation. Asperger's is a lifelong genetic coding, it DOES NOT GO AWAY when they grow up. The person merely adapts themselves by learning social rules.

There is NO PILL OR MEDICATION for Asperger's (Medication is given only if there is accompanying ADHD or depression).
The main support is 'Social Skills Training': The child is taught and made to memorize like math formulas (through Drama and CBT therapies) that they should look into someone's eyes, what to say when someone is sad, and the rules of waiting one's turn and keeping a conversation going. When guided correctly, they become highly successful and genius individuals.
