Covid-19 (Coronavirus)

Diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment methods.

General Information About Covid-19

Covid-19 is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which targets the respiratory tract. Symptoms can range from a mild cold to severe pneumonia and respiratory failure. Rapid diagnosis is established through antigen tests in our hospital, and severe cases are managed in our Intensive Care units using mechanical ventilators and specific antiviral treatments.

Disease Details and Frequently Asked Questions

You can access detailed information about the disease under the headings below.
What is Covid-19?

It is the disease caused by a novel coronavirus named SARS-CoV-2 that emerged in 2019, infecting the respiratory system and the entire body, leading to a global pandemic.

How is it Transmitted?

It is transmitted by inhaling droplets released into the air when an infected person coughs, talks, or sneezes, and by touching the mouth or eyes with hands after coming into contact with virus-contaminated surfaces.

What are the Most Common Symptoms?

Symptoms include high fever, persistent dry cough, severe muscle and joint pain, loss of taste and smell, extreme fatigue, and in advanced cases, shortness of breath.

Who is at Higher Risk for Life-Threatening Complications?

The disease can take a severe course in elderly individuals, people with chronic heart or lung diseases, diabetic patients, individuals struggling with obesity, and those with weakened immune systems.

How is it Diagnosed?

A rapid antigen test performed with a nasal and throat swab is a primary step, but the most reliable method is detecting the virus's genetic material (PCR). Computed Tomography (CT) is used to assess lung involvement.

How is it Treated?

Mild cases are managed with rest at home, fever reducers, and plenty of fluids. In severe cases, complications are prevented by hospitalization, high-flow oxygen therapy, antiviral drugs, cortisone, and blood thinners.
