It is the initial stage of gum diseases. It is the condition where the mucosa surrounding the teeth reacts to bacteria, becoming edematous, sensitive, and changing color.
It begins when the colorless bacterial plaque that forms on teeth not brushed regularly secretes toxins over time, irritating the gums.
Gums that are normally pale pink turning dark red, taking on a swollen and shiny appearance, and bleeding easily while brushing teeth or biting into something hard.
In the gingivitis stage, the jawbone and tooth root ligaments have not yet been damaged. Therefore, with the right treatment, it heals 100% and the tissues completely return to their former healthy state.
It is identified during an intraoral examination when the dentist evaluates the color change, swelling in the gums, and the amount of bleeding that occurs when touched with a probe.
Scaling (tartar removal) is performed by a dentist using ultrasonic devices. The patient is taught proper brushing and flossing techniques. Antibacterial mouthwashes are prescribed if necessary.
