It occurs when the body's defense system produces inflammation on its own due to a genetic malfunction, triggering fever episodes that last for days, despite the absence of any virus or bacteria (infection) in the body.
FMF (Familial Mediterranean Fever) is the most common type of this group seen in Turkey. Additionally, there are different genetic subtypes such as PFAPA, Hyper IgD syndrome (HIDS), and TRAPS.

Antibiotics or standard antipyretics (fever reducers) do not work. For types like FMF, daily 'Colchicine' pills largely prevent the attacks. In resistant cases, biologic agents (smart injections) that directly block inflammation pathways are utilized.
