Male Infertility

Diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment methods.

General Information About Male Infertility

Male infertility is a condition where pregnancy cannot be achieved despite regular unprotected sexual intercourse for a year, due to anatomical, hormonal, or genetic factors related to the male. Low sperm count or varicocele are the most common causes. In our Urology department, medical and surgical support is provided following a semen analysis.

Disease Details and Frequently Asked Questions

You can access detailed information about the disease under the headings below.
What is Male Infertility?

It is the condition where a couple is unable to have a child despite having regular sexual intercourse for a year, and the problem is due to defects in sperm production or delivery.

What Causes It?

Varicocele (enlargement of veins in the testicles), past testicular infections, undescended testicles, genetic disorders, hormone deficiencies, and blockages in the sperm ducts are the main causes.

Is There a Physical Symptom?

Most of the time, infertility does not present any physical symptoms other than the inability to achieve pregnancy. The man's sexual performance and the visible volume of semen can be completely normal.

How Does Varicocele Affect Sperm Quality?

The enlargement of the veins around the testicles (varicocele) increases the temperature inside the scrotum and causes pooling of deoxygenated blood. This heating disrupts the sperm production factory, which is very sensitive to heat, and reduces quality.

How is it Diagnosed?

The first and most important test in evaluating a man is the Spermiogram (Semen Analysis). This test measures the count, motility, and structural (morphological) quality of the sperm. If necessary, a testicular ultrasound and hormone tests are performed.

What are the Treatment Options?

Anatomical problems such as varicocele or duct blockages are repaired with microsurgery operations. Hormonal deficiencies are supported with medications. In cases where natural pregnancy cannot be achieved, sperm extracted using the Micro-TESE method is used in IVF/ICSI treatments.
