A Reliable Support During Childbirth with Ultrasound

In the past, midwives or doctors tried to understand how far down the baby's head had descended only by performing a "manual vaginal examination" (which is quite uncomfortable for the mother). Thanks to intrapartum ultrasound, the number of vaginal examinations is reduced, and the baby's millimetric progression in the birth canal (pelvis), the rotation angle of its head, and its rotation are monitored much more clearly on the screen from the outside.

Sometimes, even though the cervix is fully dilated (10 cm), the baby is simply not born. Ultrasound definitively shows whether the baby's face is looking up (posterior) or down. If the baby's head is positioned backward in the canal or if the umbilical cord is wrapped around its neck, it allows for an immediate decision for a safe cesarean section instead of making the mother push in vain for hours.

It is absolutely not harmful. Because it is applied externally merely by spreading gel on the abdomen, it does not contain radiation, does not put pressure on the baby, and incredibly increases the comfort of the mother experiencing contractions (compared to manual examination).
