About the Treatment Method
IVF Stages and Success Rates
The treatment consists of 4 main stages: 1) Stimulating the eggs with hormone injections given to the woman (approximately 10-12 days). 2) OPU (Egg Retrieval) procedure: Collecting the eggs under vaginal ultrasound guidance while sedated. 3) Fertilization (ICSI): Injecting sperms into the egg and developing embryos in the laboratory. 4) Embryo Transfer: Painlessly placing the prepared embryo into the mother's womb with a thin catheter.
Since the egg retrieval procedure (OPU) is performed under mild anesthesia (sedation) in operating room conditions, the patient feels no pain. The transfer procedure, on the other hand, is just like undergoing a normal gynecological examination or giving a smear test; it requires no anesthesia, is completely painless, and takes 5-10 minutes.
If more than one high-quality embryo has developed in the laboratory, 1 (or a maximum of 2) embryo is transferred to the uterus. The remaining healthy embryos can be frozen at -196 degrees and stored for years. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, or if the couple wants another child in the future, the frozen embryo is thawed and transferred by preparing only the mother's uterus, without starting over with hormone injections (egg stimulation).
Yes. Especially in couples with advanced maternal age (35+), those with recurrent miscarriages, or those who are carriers of a genetic disease, the embryo undergoes a genetic screening (PGT) in the laboratory before it is placed in the mother's womb. By transferring only embryos proven to be 100% chromosomally healthy, the risk of miscarriage is prevented.
