Yes. If the patient also has astigmatism in their eye, trifocal smart lenses with "Toric" properties are preferred, allowing astigmatism, along with myopia and hyperopia, to be corrected at once during the surgery.
The procedure is performed entirely with drop anesthesia (numbing the eye with anesthetic drops). No needles, narcotics, or stitches are used. The surgery for one eye takes only 10-15 minutes. The patient returns home on the same day.
No. The smart lenses placed inside the eye are lifelong. Because they are made from special tissue-compatible materials, they do not degrade, and the prescription does not increase again. Furthermore, once this lens is implanted, a cataract will never form in the eye again.
