Actinium-225 and Lutetium-177 PSMA Therapy

Lutetium-177 (emits Beta rays) burns a 1-2 millimeter area in the cancer cell, is effective, and has few side effects. Actinium-225 (emits Alpha rays) is a much stronger, heavier, and short-range radiation projectile; it is used as a last-resort weapon that shatters the cell's DNA in highly aggressive tumors that show resistance even to Lutetium therapy.

The greatest revolution of this method lies here. Since the drug only binds to the PSMA receptor on prostate cells, it acts as a "smart bomb" and radiation damage to healthy organs is minimal. It may only cause dryness in the salivary and lacrimal (tear) glands.

The drug is administered to the patient intravenously as a slow infusion (approximately 30 minutes). However, since the patient receives radiation, they are generally isolated for 1-2 nights in special lead-lined nuclear medicine rooms (until the radiation level drops) after the treatment. Contact with family members is allowed within the framework of certain rules.
