Insemination Treatment (IUI)

About the Treatment Method

Insemination (Intrauterine Insemination - IUI) is a first-line assisted reproductive method applied to couples who want to have children, resorted to before moving on to in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. The sperms in the semen sample taken from the male are washed with special fluids in a laboratory environment, and the fastest and highest quality ones are selected and concentrated. These powerful sperm cells obtained are placed directly into the uterus with the help of a very thin catheter on the woman's ovulation day.

Procedure Process and Chance of Success

To whom is the insemination treatment applied and how is it done?
Which couples are recommended for insemination treatment?

It is recommended as the first option in cases of unexplained infertility, situations where the male's sperm count or motility is slightly borderline, and instances where the female's cervical secretion does not allow the passage of sperm.

What is the difference from the in vitro fertilization method?

In the in vitro fertilization method, the egg and sperm are fertilized in a laboratory environment (outside), and the resulting embryo is placed in the uterus. In insemination, however, fertilization occurs completely naturally inside the woman's own body (fallopian tubes), not outside the body.

Is the insemination procedure painful?

The procedure is similar to a standard gynecological examination or taking a smear test. The catheter entering the uterus is very thin and soft. No anesthesia is required during the procedure; it is painless and takes only 5-10 minutes. The patient can return to her daily life half an hour after the procedure.

What is the success rate of insemination?

The chance of success for each insemination cycle is on average between 15% and 20%. This rate varies depending on the patient's age and sperm quality. It is generally recommended to try insemination 2 or 3 times before proceeding to in vitro fertilization.
