Atrial Fibrillation Treatment

About the Treatment Method

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common and dangerous rhythm disorders caused by the upper chambers of the heart (atria) beating at a frantic speed of 300-600 per minute and irregularly (quivering). If left untreated, it can cause heart failure and blood pooling inside the heart, leading to blood clots (stroke/paralysis). The treatment protocol is built on three pillars: correcting the rhythm, slowing the heart rate, and preventing coagulation.

Rhythm Control and Stroke Prevention

Medical and interventional solutions for AF rhythm disorder.
Why are blood thinners essential?

Because the atria cannot contract regularly, blood is not fully pumped and accumulates inside the heart, tending to coagulate. If this clot goes to the brain, it causes a stroke (paralysis). Therefore, lifelong blood thinners (anticoagulants) are prescribed to a large majority of atrial fibrillation patients.

What is Cardioversion (Shock Therapy)?

In patients where medications cannot return the rhythm to normal, it is the process of resetting the electrical system by delivering a controlled electric shock to the heart under short-term anesthesia (sedation) and restoring the heart to a normal sinus rhythm (like resetting a computer).

Does ablation offer a permanent solution?

In cases where medication is not beneficial or the patient does not want to use medication, the process of burning or freezing these faulty electricity-producing foci in the heart with the "Ablation" procedure performed by entering through the groin provides a highly permanent success rate.
