Botox (Botulinum Toxin)

About the Treatment Method

Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is a purified protein obtained in a laboratory environment from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. It works by temporarily interrupting the communication of the muscles with the nerves (relaxing the muscles) in the area where it is injected. It is safely used both in aesthetic medicine to erase signs of aging on the face, and in neurology and dermatology in the treatment of chronic problems such as migraines, teeth grinding, and excessive sweating.

Aesthetic and Medical Usage Areas

Working principle, safety, and duration of effect of Botox.
Is Botox snake venom?

No, this is a very common urban legend. Botox is absolutely not snake venom; it is an FDA-approved medical protein complex produced under controlled conditions in laboratory environments.

Will it freeze my facial expressions and mimics?

Today, minimal dose techniques called "Baby Botox" or "Natural Botox" are used. When performed in the right doses by expert hands, your face will not look surprised or frozen (like a mask); only the tired and wrinkled expression is erased while your natural smile and mimics are preserved.

How long does its effect last, is it addictive?

The effect of Botox begins 3-4 days after the procedure, fully settles on the 10th day, and lasts for an average of 4 to 6 months. Afterwards, the muscles slowly return to their former state. It is not addictive; when you stop having Botox, your face will not be worse than before, it will only return to its previous (pre-procedure) state.

Where is medical (therapeutic) botox applied?

Apart from aesthetics; it is frequently applied to the head and neck region to stop chronic migraine attacks, to the chewing muscles (masseter) to prevent teeth grinding (bruxism), and to the armpits, palms, and soles of the feet to stop excessive sweating.
