Nasal Bone Curvature Surgery (Septoplasty)

About the Treatment Method

Septoplasty is the surgical correction of curvatures (deviations) in the "Septum" wall, which divides the nasal cavity exactly in half and consists of both cartilage and bone. This curvature blocks one or both nostrils, causing chronic nasal congestion, mouth breathing, snoring, and frequent sinusitis attacks. Through surgery, these curved parts are removed or reshaped, completely opening the airway.

Surgical Process and Intranasal Tampons

Breathing surgery and the tampon process that patients are most curious about.
Will the surgery change the external shape of my nose?

No, if only "Septoplasty" is performed. The entire procedure takes place on the cartilage and bones inside the nose; there is no external aesthetic change (such as removing a hump or lifting the nose). If it is desired to change the external shape as well, "Rhinoplasty" is added to this surgery, resulting in a Septorhinoplasty.

Are cloth tampons placed after the surgery?

The meter-long cloth tampons used in the past, which caused severe pain when removed, are now history. Today, soft "Silicone Splints" with a hole in the middle (allowing breathing through them) are used to keep the septum straight and stable. Their removal takes seconds and is absolutely painless.

When can I return to normal life?

The surgery usually takes 45-60 minutes under general anesthesia. The patient is discharged on the same day or the next day. It generally takes 2-3 weeks for the swelling (edema) inside the nose to subside and to start breathing "perfectly".
