Jaw Botox (Masseter Botox)

About the Treatment Method

Masseter botox is the process of injecting botulinum toxin into the chewing (masseter) muscle, which is located in the lower corner of the face and is one of the strongest muscles in our body. It is a medical procedure applied to treat stress-related teeth grinding during sleep (Bruxism), pain in the jaw joint upon waking in the morning, and tooth enamel abrasions. At the same time, it gives the face a thinner and more elegant "V" shape (aesthetics) by shrinking this muscle, which has enlarged due to constant contraction and makes the face look "square".

Procedure and Mechanism of Action

Solution to the teeth grinding problem and facial thinning effect.
Will the procedure make it difficult for me to chew food?

No. There is more than one muscle group that enables chewing. Botox applied to the masseter muscle only stops the "excessive and involuntary" contraction (teeth grinding) of the muscle. You will not feel any loss of strength or strangeness in your normal eating or speaking functions.

When does its effect begin?

About 3-5 days after the procedure, you will feel a rapid decrease in nighttime teeth grinding and morning jaw pain. However, it generally takes up to the 3rd or 4th week for the muscle to shrink in volume and the face to aesthetically thin out (V face line).

Is it permanent, does it need to be repeated?

The effect of Botox lasts an average of 4 to 6 months. At the end of this period, the muscle slowly begins to regain its former strength. When repeated regularly (twice a year), the masseter muscle gets used to this weakness, and the teeth grinding habit can be completely broken and treated in the long run.
