Dermabrasion

About the Treatment Method

Dermabrasion is the process of sanding and peeling the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis) in a controlled manner using high-speed, special motorized diamond-tipped devices. It causes the body to react to this damage and produce a brand new, smooth, and collagen-rich skin layer. It is one of the most powerful aesthetic surgical methods for erasing deep acne scars, razor cuts, accident scars, and deep wrinkles around the mouth.

Skin Sanding Procedure and Recovery

The difference between dermabrasion and laser or peeling methods and the aftermath.
What is its difference from chemical peeling or laser?

Peeling and laser procedures are for more superficial blemishes and fine wrinkles. Dermabrasion, on the other hand, yields much more dramatic and permanent results in very deep depressions (severe acne scars) where other methods cannot have an effect, because it physically scrapes the skin directly.

How is the healing process, does crusting occur?

After the procedure, redness, stinging, and the appearance of an open wound occur on the skin. For the first few days, the skin is kept moist with special ointments. Then, the skin forms a crust. It takes about 10-14 days for the crusts to fall off completely and the pink, fresh skin to emerge from underneath.

Can one go out in the sun after the procedure?

Absolutely not. The renewed fresh skin is extremely sensitive to the sun. Protecting the skin directly from the sun, using a high-factor sunscreen, and wearing a hat for 3 to 6 months after the procedure is vital to prevent permanent blemishes.
