Post-Extraction Care and Wisdom Teeth
In a normal tooth extraction, the tooth is grasped with special tools and pulled directly. If the wisdom tooth is impacted and in a horizontal position under the bone or gums; the gums must be cut open, some bone must be abraded, and sometimes the tooth must be removed by dividing it into pieces (Surgical Extraction). At the end of the procedure, the area is sutured.
You need to bite firmly on the gauze pad placed on the extraction site for at least 30-45 minutes. After this period, slight bleeding in the form of oozing or pinkish saliva is normal for 24 hours.
For the first 24 hours, the mouth should absolutely not be rinsed and you should not spit (so the clot does not dislodge). Very hot or extremely hard foods, and grainy foods should be avoided. Because it will trigger clot dislodgement, smoking is strictly prohibited on the day of the extraction, and a straw should not be used.
