Braces Treatment (Orthodontics)

About the Treatment Method

Orthodontic treatment (Braces) is the specialty of dentistry that aims to give the patient both an aesthetic smile and a healthy chewing function by correcting the irregular alignment of teeth within the jawbone (crowding, spacing) and the faulty closure of the upper and lower jaws with each other (malocclusion).

Types of Braces and Treatment Process

Metal braces, clear aligners, and adult orthodontics.
How long does the treatment take?

The duration varies greatly depending on the severity of the crowding, the jaw closure problem, and the patient's compliance with the rules. However, general orthodontic treatments are completed in an average of 1.5 to 2.5 years.

Can adults get braces too?

Absolutely yes. Braces are not just a treatment applied to children; braces (or clear aligner) treatment can be successfully applied to adults of any age with good gum health, and crowding can be corrected.

Do braces ruin aesthetics, are there invisible braces?

Although classic metal brackets are prominent, for adults with aesthetic concerns, treatment can be done in a completely aesthetic way using tooth-colored "Porcelain (Clear) Brackets", "Lingual Orthodontics" attached to the back surface of the teeth (facing the tongue), or using solely removable "Clear Aligners (Invisalign, etc.)" without attaching any wires.

Is there pain while or after the braces are attached?

There is absolutely no pain or needle procedure when wires or brackets are bonded to the tooth. However, when the wires are tightened and a directional (moving) force is applied to the teeth, it is very normal and temporary to have aching in the teeth, sensitivity in chewing, and slight irritation inside the cheeks for the first 3-4 days.
