Dialysis Methods and Sessions
It is the most common method. Blood is drawn from a surgically created vascular access (fistula) in the patient's arm. This blood is passed through filters called an artificial kidney (dialyzer) inside the dialysis machine, cleansed of all waste, and returned clean to the body.
Hemodialysis treatment is generally applied in dialysis centers of hospitals, 3 days a week. Each session takes an average of 4 hours depending on the patient's level of kidney failure and weight. During this process, the patient rests by the machine.
It is the method where the patient's own abdominal membrane (peritoneum) is used as a filter instead of a machine. A special fluid is introduced into the abdominal cavity with a thin catheter; this fluid absorbs the toxins present in the blood and is then drained. The biggest advantage of this method is that the patient can perform their treatment in their own home and even while sleeping, without being tied to a machine.
