About the Treatment Method
Examination of Milk Ducts
Small pieces of flesh called "Intraductal Papillomas", which are the most common cause of nipple discharge, are generally 2-3 millimeters in size. Such small lesions are often not seen on mammography or ultrasound. Ductoscopy is the most definitive diagnostic method because it directly enters the milk duct.
During the camera examination, if a small and benign papilloma or plug blocking the duct is seen, a biopsy can be taken with special micro-instruments, and sometimes the problem can be treated by completely washing out or removing that small tumor (Therapeutic ductoscopy).
No incision (surgery) is made on the nipple. Only the nipple is numbed with local anesthetic creams. The micro-camera is gently inserted through the natural opening of the dilated milk duct and advanced with the help of fluid. The procedure is performed in outpatient conditions and is highly tolerable (painless) for patients.
