About the Treatment Method
Procedure Details and Its Relationship with Ablation
An Angio looks at whether the blood vessels supplying the heart (coronary arteries) are blocked (plumbing). EPS, on the other hand, examines whether there is a leak or short circuit in the electrical cables (electrical wiring) that enable the heart to contract. They are completely different procedures.
The patient is usually awake but relaxing (sedation) drugs are given. By applying local anesthesia to the groin area, the heart is reached with thin wires through the veins. By giving very mild electrical stimuli to the heart, the moment of palpitation is artificially created in a laboratory environment, and where the problem is located is confirmed.
No, EPS is both a definitive diagnosis and the first step of treatment. During the EPS, the moment the abnormal electrical pathway causing the palpitation is detected, the doctor can instantly complete the treatment by destroying that pathway with radiofrequency (heat) waves (Ablation).
