Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

About the Treatment Method

Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment) is the treatment applied to prevent the extraction of the tooth in cases where the vascular-nerve bundle (pulp) located in the innermost part of the tooth becomes inflamed or dies due to deep tooth decay, severe traumas, or repeated fillings. Inflamed nerves are completely cleaned from the root canals of the tooth, the canals are enlarged with micro-instruments, disinfected, and tightly sealed with special leak-proof filling materials.

Stages of the Tooth Saving Operation

Removing the nerves of the painful tooth and keeping the tooth in the mouth.
Is root canal treatment a painful procedure?

Thanks to advanced local anesthesia (needles) in today's modern dentistry, root canal treatment is a completely painless procedure. The only thing the patient will feel is the vibrations of a standard filling procedure.

Does a tooth that has had its nerve removed become lifeless (dead)?

Yes, because the blood vessels and nerves inside it are removed, the tooth loses its vitality and does not feel hot/cold sensitivity. However, since it continues to hold onto the surrounding jawbone and connective tissue, it healthily performs its chewing function for many years.

What is done to the tooth after root canal treatment?

A tooth that has lost its vitality becomes more fragile over time. For this reason, especially in posterior chewing teeth, instead of a standard filling over the tooth after a root canal treatment, having a "Porcelain/Zirconium Crown" that completely envelops the tooth significantly extends the life of the tooth.
