Physiotherapy (Physical Therapy)

About the Treatment Method

Physiotherapy is a holistic medical branch applied to restore the mobility, muscle strength, and joint flexibility that the patient has lost after orthopedic surgeries, sports injuries, stroke (paralysis), lumbar/cervical hernias, or rheumatic diseases. The functional independence of the body is targeted by using hot/cold agents, electrical currents (TENS), manual therapy, ultrasound, and most importantly, personalized exercise prescriptions.

Rehabilitation Processes and Benefits

The use of physical therapy agents and the lasting effect of exercises.
Is it only a pain-relieving method?

No, this is a very incomplete definition. The first stage of physical therapy (the part done with devices) is usually to resolve pain, spasms, and edema. However, the actual therapeutic part is the special clinical exercises that ensure the root resolution of the problem by strengthening the weakened muscles after that pain passes.

How long does a physical therapy course take?

Although it varies depending on the type of disease, a standard lumbar/cervical hernia or shoulder tear course is usually planned between 10 to 15 sessions. In neurological rehabilitations (stroke treatment), the process can take months or even years.

Will it hurt during the treatment?

None of the applied devices (electric current or ultrasound) are burning or painful; only a slight tingling or warmth is felt. However, in joint opening exercises such as after a frozen shoulder or knee replacement, since your limits are pushed accompanied by a physiotherapist, it is normal and necessary to experience a sweet, tolerable pain.

Are home exercises mandatory?

They are absolutely mandatory. For the benefit of the 1 hour you spend at the physical therapy center to be permanent, adding the exercises your physiotherapist taught you to your life as a regular routine at home constitutes 50% of the treatment.
