Phototherapy (Light Therapy)

About the Treatment Method

Phototherapy is the process of applying rays of specific wavelengths (usually blue or ultraviolet light) to the skin for medical purposes. The most well-known area of use is to treat "Newborn Jaundice" by breaking down the excess bilirubin in the blood of newborn babies. In addition, it is extensively used in the field of Dermatology to slow down cellular proliferation in the treatment of stubborn skin diseases such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and eczema.

The Healing Power of Light

The application of phototherapy in newborns and skin diseases.

Absolutely not. This light only affects the skin and converts the bilirubin in the blood into a simpler substance that can be excreted through urine and feces. Only the baby's eyes are protected from the light with a special band; apart from that, it is a completely safe, painless, and life-saving (brain damage preventing) method.

In diseases such as psoriasis and vitiligo, the immune system mistakenly attacks skin cells, causing them to multiply at an abnormal rate. Medical light therapy applied in special ultraviolet (UV) cabins slows down this abnormal cell growth, stopping inflammation and scaling on the skin.
