Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

About the Treatment Method

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is the process of externally supplementing through medications (pills, patches, gels) the Estrogen and Progesterone hormones that are deficient in the body, especially in women when the ovaries stop working during menopause. It dramatically resolves the symptoms that lower the quality of life caused by menopause, such as severe hot flashes, sweating, insomnia, vaginal dryness, and bone loss (osteoporosis).

Menopause Management and Safety

The benefits, risks, and treatment principles of using HRT.
Does hormone therapy cause breast cancer?

Although this risk was presented in an exaggerated manner in old studies conducted in past years, current medical evidence shows that HRT is quite safe, provided that "it is started in the right patient, at the lowest dose, and in the first years of entering menopause." However, this treatment is not initiated in those with a strong family history of breast cancer or those with a clotting problem.

Does it only prevent hot flashes?

In addition to cutting hot flashes by 90%, the most vital protective effect of HRT is that it stops the rapidly developing bone loss (osteoporosis) linked to menopause. It also slows down collagen loss in the skin, provides a protective shield against cardiovascular diseases in the first years, and completely treats urinary tract/vaginal dryness complaints.

Is this treatment continued for life?

No. Hormone replacement therapy is generally used for the first 3 to 5 years, which is the most distressing period of menopause, for the body to adapt to the new order. Later, the dose is slowly reduced and gradually discontinued under the supervision of a doctor.

What is HRT (Testosterone Therapy) for men?

Testosterone levels that drop in the state of "Andropause (hypogonadism)" developing with aging in men; cause fatigue, muscle loss, depression, and loss of sexual desire. If there is a proven deficiency in the blood, testosterone replacement given via injections or gels restores the man's energy and quality of life.
