Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynecological Diseases

About the Treatment Method

Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynecological Diseases is a "Closed Surgery" method performed by inserting a camera and long, thin surgical instruments through 3 or 4 tiny holes of 0.5 - 1 centimeter opened from the belly button and groin areas, instead of cutting the abdominal wall completely (laparotomy/cesarean section incision). Operations such as ovarian cysts (chocolate cysts), myomas, ectopic pregnancy, tubal ligation, and complete removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) are safely and comfortably performed with this method.

Advantages of Closed Gynecological Surgeries

The benefits of laparoscopy compared to open surgeries and the recovery process.

Because the incision is very small, postoperative pain is incredibly low. The hospital stay is shortened (usually 1 night), the risk of infection is very low, the possibility of adhesion formation in the abdomen decreases, and since the scar is almost invisible, it gives a perfect result aesthetically.

Thanks to special tissue-shredding devices called "Morcellators" located at the tip of the laparoscopic instruments, a large myoma or uterus inside the abdomen is divided into small strips like a meat grinder inside a closed bag and easily pulled out through those 1-centimeter holes.

During the surgery, the abdomen is inflated with harmless Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas so that the surgeon can see inside comfortably and the organs separate from each other. Although this gas is emptied at the end of the surgery, the small amount of gas remaining inside can stimulate the diaphragm nerve, creating a slight pain or stinging sensation in the shoulders and back for the first few days. This condition passes quickly as you walk.
