Pulp Capping Treatment

Root canal treatment takes out all the life (nerves) inside the tooth and kills it; the tooth turns into a lifeless, fragile structure. Pulp capping, on the other hand, is a biological intervention that gives the tooth the chance to "repair its own wound". If successful, the tooth remains alive, sensate, and much more durable for a lifetime.

The success rate depends on how much the nerve is exposed and how inflamed it is. A success rate of 80-90% is achieved most of the time. However, if severe throbbing pains (night pain) begin in the tooth in the weeks following the procedure, this indicates that the nerve could not heal, and unfortunately, it is then mandatory to proceed to root canal treatment.
