Laparoscopic Surgery (Closed Surgery)

About the Treatment Method

Laparoscopic Surgery is a revolutionary surgical method performed with a high-resolution camera (laparoscope) and long, thin surgical instruments sent inside through only 3 or 4 tiny holes with a diameter of 0.5 to 1 centimeter, instead of large (open) incisions made from end to end in the abdominal area. Today, more than 90% of surgeries such as gallbladder removal, appendicitis, inguinal hernia, and obesity (gastric sleeve) are performed as a standard with this "closed" method.

Superiorities of Closed Surgery

The advantages the patient and the surgeon gain from laparoscopy.

Absolutely not. In closed (laparoscopic) surgery, the cutting, suturing, or organ removal process performed inside is exactly the same as the medical process in open surgery. The only difference is that instead of your abdomen being split end to end, the instruments are inserted through tiny tubes (trocars) and applied by looking at a giant monitor outside.

A space must be created between the abdominal membrane (peritoneum) and the organs so that camera-equipped instruments can move easily inside without damaging the organs. For this reason, harmless Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas, which is rapidly absorbed and excreted by the body, is pumped into the abdominal cavity, inflating the abdomen like a dome.

The biggest revolution of laparoscopic surgery is that the patient can stand up and be discharged the next day (sometimes even the same day). Because there are no large muscle incisions, postoperative wound pain is minimal, no aesthetic scar remains, and the patient returns to their normal work life much faster compared to open surgery.
