Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery

About the Treatment Method

Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery is the procedure of cutting and removing the diseased bowel section using a closed (camera) method and sewing the remaining healthy bowel ends back together (anastomosis) in cases such as large intestine (colon) and rectum cancers, unresolving bowel obstructions, diverticulitis, or Crohn's disease. These major surgeries, which used to involve opening the abdomen from the chest to the groin, can now be comfortably performed through tiny holes.

Closed Surgery in Intestinal Cancers

The oncological success of laparoscopy in colon surgery.
Can cancer be completely cleaned with the closed method?

Studies involving tens of thousands of cases worldwide have proven that; in laparoscopic surgery performed in experienced hands, both the tumor in the intestine and the surrounding lymph nodes are cleaned "as perfectly as in open surgery". The principles of cancer surgery are never compromised.

How is the cut intestine taken outside?

With laparoscopic tools, all internal vessels are ligated, and the intestine is completely freed. For the piece to be removed (tumor), a small hole of 4-5 centimeters (similar to a cesarean section incision) is usually made at the final stage, generally corresponding to the underwear line, and the tumor is taken out in one piece inside a special bag.
