Uterus-Sparing Closed Surgery
A special motorized device called a "Morcellator (shredder)" is used in closed surgery. Massive myomas taken out of the uterus are broken into long strips (like ground meat) inside an odorless tube with the help of this tool and pulled out through that tiny 1-centimeter hole.
Because myomas are of genetic and hormonal (estrogen) origin, the removed myoma does not grow back, but a new myoma core can reproduce in a different part of the uterus over the years. The main purpose of this surgery is to leave the uterus in place.
In order for the stitches (muscle layer) placed on the uterus to heal soundly after the myoma is removed and not to tear (rupture) in a possible pregnancy, patients are generally advised to use protection (not get pregnant) for 3 to 6 months.
