Breast Reduction Surgery (Reduction Mammoplasty)

The weight of large breasts causes cervical disc herniation, spinal curvatures (kyphosis), stooped walking, fungal infections (diaper rash) under the breast, and deep bra strap indentations on the shoulders. Rather than aesthetics, this surgery frees the patient from a physical burden and chronic pain for life.

The more the breast is reduced, the greater the amount of milk gland and duct cut. Although techniques (pedicled technique) that preserve milk ducts and nerves are used today, since a part of the breast is removed, there is always a risk of a decrease (or rarely, complete cessation) in the amount of milk in a future pregnancy. Therefore, patients should undergo surgery knowing this risk.

Since a large part of the breast tissue is physically thrown away in surgery, it is not possible for it to return to its old massive size. However, if the patient gains excessive weight (obesity) in the future or gets pregnant, it is natural to experience some growth as the fat cells in the remaining tissues will expand.
