Oculoplastics (Eye Contour Aesthetics and Surgery)

About the Treatment Method

Oculoplastics is a highly sensitive and specialized surgical sub-branch of Ophthalmology that deals not only with the eyeball, but also with both the functional diseases (droopy eyelid, inward/outward turning, tumors, canal blockages) and aesthetic problems (bagging) of the eyelids, tear ducts, eye socket (orbit), and all tissues around the eye.

The Combination of Function and Aesthetics

Main diseases covered by oculoplastic surgery.
Which diseases does it intervene in?

Ptosis (congenital or age-related droopy eyelid), Entropion/Ectropion (eyelashes turning inward towards the eye or eyelid sagging outward), tear duct blockages, eyes protruding outward due to thyroid (Goiter) disease (exophthalmos), orbital fractures, and prosthetic eye creation are the main areas of oculoplastics.

Why should an eye doctor (oculoplastic surgeon) perform aesthetic procedures instead of a plastic surgeon?

The eyelids and surrounding areas are the body's thinnest, most functional, and protective tissue. Even a millimetric error can cause the patient to be unable to close their eye and the cornea to dry out (blindness). Oculoplastics specialists provide both an aesthetic appearance and have received special medical training to protect the tear function of the eye and corneal health.
