About the Treatment Method
Non-Surgical Muscle Strengthening
Many women do "Kegel (pelvic muscle squeezing)" exercises by squeezing the wrong muscles (abdomen or buttocks). Through sensors placed in the vagina, the biofeedback device shows graphically on the computer screen whether the patient is squeezing the correct muscle or not. Thus, the patient learns to work the right muscle by "seeing" it.
In mild and moderate stress-type (when coughing, laughing) urinary incontinence, pelvic floor exercises and electrostimulation (working the muscles by giving them mild electricity) treatments provide full success at a rate of 70-80%. In advanced prolapses, surgical methods (sling surgeries) are required.
Just like bodybuilding in the gym, it takes time for the muscles to strengthen and regain their former shape. In addition to device treatments applied in the clinic 2-3 days a week, it is essential for the patient to stick to their home exercises for at least 3 to 6 months.
