PIPAC (Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy)

For HIPEC (Heated Chemotherapy), the abdomen must first be opened completely from end to end, and the tumors inside must be cleaned with surgery lasting for hours (it is a very heavy surgery). PIPAC, on the other hand, is the procedure of spraying the medicine directly into the abdomen as a spray for 30 minutes by entering with a camera through only 2 small holes (laparoscopically) without performing surgery on the patient. The patient can go home the next day.

The gas (aerosol) form penetrates microscopically into the smallest folds of the abdomen, into every nook and cranny where liquid chemotherapy cannot reach. In addition, thanks to the applied "pressure", the chemotherapy drug is ensured to penetrate (inside) the tumor tissue to a depth of millimeters.

PIPAC is generally a palliative procedure, not curative (providing full healing). Its purpose is to shrink the tumors surrounding the abdomen, stop the constant fluid accumulation (ascites) in the patient's abdomen, relieve pain, and increase the patient's survival time/quality of life. It is mostly applied in 3 sessions with intervals of 6 weeks.
