Uterus Removal Surgery (Hysterectomy)

About the Treatment Method

Hysterectomy is the procedure of surgically removing a woman's uterus (womb) from the body due to myomas, severe bleeding that cannot be stopped with medication, uterine prolapse, deep endometriosis, or gynecological cancers (uterine, cervical, or ovarian cancers). Depending on the type of disease, only the uterus can be removed, and sometimes the tubes and ovaries can also be removed along with the procedure.

Surgical Process and Impact on Life

Information about surgical methods and menopause status.
Can the surgery be performed with a closed (Laparoscopic) method?

Yes. If the size of the uterus or the patient's past surgical history allows it, it is done with camera-assisted "Laparoscopic" or "Robotic" methods entering through the belly button, instead of cutting the abdomen from end to end (open surgery). The entire uterus is pulled out via the vaginal route (from below).

Will I have my period after my uterus is removed, will I enter menopause?

Since the uterus has been removed, you will no longer have periods (bleeding). However, "whether you enter menopause or not" depends on the condition of your ovaries. If only the uterus was removed in the surgery and your ovaries were left, the ovaries continue to produce hormones, and you do not experience menopause complaints (hot flashes, etc.) until your time comes.

Does it negatively affect sexual life?

After a hysterectomy surgery (after the vaginal tissues heal), sexual pleasure, desire, or the ability to have an orgasm does not physiologically change or disappear. In fact, it is observed that the quality of sexual life after surgery increases much more in women whose sexual life was disrupted due to severe bleeding and pain.
