Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery

About the Treatment Method

Robotic knee replacement (Arthroplasty) surgery is the operation of replacing a knee joint destroyed by calcification with an artificial joint using smart robotic systems (e.g., MAKOplasty) that adapt 100% to the patient's anatomy. The bone cutting angles and the placement of the prosthesis are calculated millimetrically by the robot thanks to the 3D tomography taken before the surgery, and the margin of error is eliminated.

Smart Joint Surgery

The working logic of the robotic system in orthopedics and the lifespan of the prosthesis.
Is the surgeon doing the surgery, or the robot?

Your orthopedic surgeon personally performs the surgery. The robot does not make incisions on its own. The surgeon guides the robotic arm, but the robot does not allow going out of bounds (hand trembling, etc.) to prevent "making mistakes or cutting too much bone". So the robot is a flawless guide.

Does it create a more natural feeling in the knee compared to the classic method?

Yes. The knee joint consists not only of bone but also of very sensitive ligaments around it. The robot digitally measures the ligament balance (tension) of the knee during surgery and seats the prosthesis exactly according to this balance. Therefore, patients get a much more natural walking feeling after surgery, as if it were their own knee, not an "artificial knee".

Does it extend the life of the prosthesis?

Absolutely. In classic surgeries, there may be slight axis deviations due to manual measurements, which leads to more wear on one side of the prosthesis over time. Because the prosthesis is placed at a millimetrically perfect angle with the robot, mechanical wear is much slower, and the lifespan of the prosthesis is dramatically extended.
