Robotic Thoracic Surgery (RATS)

About the Treatment Method

Robotic Thoracic Surgery (RATS) is the most advanced surgical form in which major surgeries to be performed inside the rib cage, primarily Lung Cancer surgery (Lobectomy) and Thymus gland tumors (Thymoma), are performed using the Da Vinci robotic system through small holes opened between the ribs (without any bones being separated or broken).

Lung Surgery Preserving Ribs

The difference of robotic technology in closed lung surgeries (VATS).
Why is Robot (RATS) preferred when there is closed surgery (VATS)?

The long stick instruments used in standard closed surgery only move straight. The robot's arms, on the other hand, are like a human wrist that can rotate 540 degrees. In this way, even the hardest-to-reach lymph nodes hidden behind the heart, aorta, and spine can be stripped (dissected) perfectly and cleanly without damaging any vessels, and cancer cleaning can be done.

Is the post-operative pain less?

The biggest problem in thoracic surgeries is chronic pain caused by the crushing of nerves between the ribs. The robotic arms enter the chest wall from a fixed fulcrum and perform their maneuvers "inside" without putting pressure on the ribs. Because this prevents the crushing of the nerves, the pain after the surgery is incomparably less than open surgery.
