Gallbladder Surgery (Cholecystectomy)

About the Treatment Method

Cholecystectomy (Removal of the gallbladder) is the process of completely removing the gallbladder and the stones inside it surgically from the body when the stones formed inside the gallbladder (cholelithiasis) cause abdominal pain (biliary colic), jaundice, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), or inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis). Today, without exception, all gallbladder surgeries are performed as a standard using the Closed (Laparoscopic) method.

Definitive Solution for Gallbladder Diseases

Adaptation of the digestive system after the gallbladder is removed.
Why is the gallbladder itself removed and not just the stones?

Unlike kidney stones, gallstones cannot be broken with a laser or removed alone. This is because the source of the problem is not the stone itself, but the wall of the gallbladder, which has become prone to producing stones (diseased). If you only remove the stone, the sick gallbladder will produce stones again within a few months. That is why the gallbladder itself is completely removed.

How does life (digestion) continue without a gallbladder?

The gallbladder is not the organ that "produces" bile; it is just a reservoir that "stores" the bile produced by the liver. When the reservoir is removed, the liver continues to flow the bile it produces directly into the intestine through a duct (choledochus). In this way, digestion is not interrupted in any way, and its absence is not felt.

When can I eat after the surgery?

You will stand up 5-6 hours after laparoscopic surgery and usually start feeding with a light liquid/soup diet. You will be discharged the next day. In order for the body to get used to the bile flow flowing directly into the intestine, avoiding excessively fatty, fried, and egg-containing foods for the first 2-3 weeks will prevent indigestion. Afterwards, a completely normal diet is resumed.
