Salpingectomy (Removal of Fallopian Tubes)

About the Treatment Method

Salpingectomy is the process of completely cutting and removing one (unilateral) or both (bilateral) of the Fallopian tubes, which act as a canal/bridge between the ovaries and the uterus in the female reproductive system, from the body via a surgical operation. It is frequently performed using the laparoscopic (closed) method in cases of ectopic pregnancy ruptures, infection and fluid accumulation in the tubes (Hydrosalpinx), or to prophylactically (preventively) eliminate the risk of ovarian/tubal cancer.

Surgery on the Fallopian Tubes

Effects of removing the tubes on pregnancy planning (IVF).

In the tube-tying (tubal ligation) procedure, the canal passage is closed just by putting a clip or ring over the tubes (the aim is solely birth control). Salpingectomy, on the other hand, is completely cutting the tissue from its root, taking it out of the body, and throwing it away (to pathology) because the tube is diseased or carries a cancer risk.

Absolutely not. The organs that produce female hormones (estrogen) and determine menopause are not the tubes but the "Ovaries". The ovaries are not touched during the surgery. Even if your tubes are completely removed, your menstrual cycle and hormone levels continue regularly as before.

Since the tubes are the path the sperm takes to the egg, it is impossible for a woman whose tubes (both sides) have been removed to get pregnant at home "naturally". However, since the uterus and ovaries are intact, she can perfectly get pregnant and give birth to her own baby by having her own eggs collected via the "In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)" method. In fact, removing tubes with hydrosalpinx (toxic fluid) increases the IVF success rate.
