Cesarean Delivery

About the Treatment Method

Cesarean Delivery is a major surgical operation applied in medical necessities where a normal (vaginal) birth carries life-threatening risks for the expectant mother or baby (breech presentation of the baby, large baby, cord entanglement, placenta covering the cervix, or the mother's previous surgeries). The baby is safely and quickly brought into the world through horizontal incisions made in the abdominal wall and uterus.

Planned or Emergency Surgical Birth

Anesthesia methods used in a cesarean section and the recovery process.
With what anesthesia is it done, can I see my baby immediately?

Except for emergency bleeding situations (where seconds count), 90% of cesarean operations are performed with "Spinal or Epidural Anesthesia" (regional anesthesia where only from the waist down is numbed). In this way, the mother is completely awake, feels no pain, but hears her baby's first cry, and as soon as the baby is born, it is placed on her cheek, allowing her to experience that miraculous first contact.

Can a woman who had a cesarean section give birth normally again?

This situation, known in medicine as "Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)," is possible. However, for this to happen, at least 2 years must have passed between the two pregnancies for the mother's uterus to heal, the baby must be in a head-down position, and it must take place in a fully equipped hospital environment ready for emergency intervention (against the risk of uterine rupture).

Is the recovery process longer compared to normal birth?

Yes. After all, it is an intra-abdominal surgery where 7 layers of tissue are cut and sutured. While mothers stand up on the same day in a normal birth, gas pains and wound site sensitivity are prominent in the first 24 hours after a cesarean section. The biggest secret to quick recovery is to "get up early and walk a lot in the corridor" with the support of a nurse 6-8 hours after the surgery.
