Scarless Abdominal Surgery
It is frequently performed by experienced general surgeons, especially in gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), appendicitis surgeries, ovarian cyst surgery, and gastric sleeve (sleeve gastrectomy) surgeries in obesity treatment.
Even in classic closed surgery, 3-4 tiny scars remain on the right and left of the abdomen. However, in the SILS method, because the surgical scar is sewn by hiding it exactly into that natural folded structure of the belly button, when the surgical wound heals, even if the person wears a bikini, there is not the slightest trace (scarless) that they had an operation on their abdomen. It is cosmetically flawless.
Because all instruments must enter through the same narrow hole and cross each other (like sword fighting), it is a technically extremely demanding operation for the surgeon and requires advanced training. Also, this technique may not be preferred in patients with very severe obesity or in patients with adhesions who have previously had major abdominal surgery.
