State-of-the-Art Spine Surgery
The public mistakenly calls this method "laser hernia surgery" or "hernia extraction with a needle". Although the laser is sometimes used inside the endoscope to shrink tissues, what actually performs the procedure is not the laser, but entering with a camera system and mechanically removing the hernia out (like tweezers).
Microsurgery is already very successful (a 2 cm incision is made) but still, some of the muscles are stripped. In the fully closed endoscopic method, however, muscles are never cut or stripped; the target point is reached by passing like a pen just between the muscle fibers. Therefore, post-operative back pain (surgical wound pain) is exponentially less than even microsurgery.
The operation usually takes about 45 minutes with local, spinal, or general anesthesia. Since there is no incision, patients walk just a few hours after surgery and are usually discharged home on the same day (or the next morning). The return to desk jobs happens in just a few days.
