TriClip (Tricuspid Valve Clip)

About the Treatment Method

TriClip is a non-surgical, angiographic treatment applied in case the "Tricuspid Valve" located between the right atrium and the right ventricle of the heart cannot close completely, causing blood to leak backward (Tricuspid Regurgitation). The valve of elderly/frail patients who have this disease, which causes severe leg swelling (edema), fluid accumulation in the abdomen, and fatigue, and whose open surgery is considered high risk, is accessed through the groin and stapled together with a special clip to reduce the leakage.

Clipped Solution for Right Heart Failure

Repairing the Tricuspid valve with a clip instead of open surgery.
What is the difference from the MitraClip (Mitral Valve) procedure?

Logically, it is completely the same as MitraClip; both aim to stop the leakage by clipping the valve. Only the valves operated on (right heart-left heart) and the anatomy of the valve are different. Because the tricuspid valve has 3 leaflets, clipping it is technically more difficult and requires specially produced (TriClip) systems.

Is the chest opened for the procedure?

Absolutely not. The procedure is performed entirely in the Catheter Laboratory (Angiography unit), entering through the groin vein (femoral vein) and monitored with camera-tipped ultrasounds (TEE) without stopping the heart. The patient's chest is not cut.

Does it provide complete healing?

It is very difficult to achieve zero leakage in dilated and deformed tricuspid valve diseases. The main purpose of the procedure is to dramatically increase the patient's quality of life by reducing the patient's unbearable shortness of breath, leg swelling (edema), and heart failure complaints (by alleviating the leakage).
