In acute pancreatitis, gallstones, obstruction of the pancreatic ducts, salivary gland diseases (such as mumps), and some gastrointestinal problems, the amylase value in the blood can rise significantly above normal.
To obtain more accurate and clear results, it is generally preferred that the test be performed after an 8-10 hour fast. Since alcohol consumption can affect the results, it should not be consumed before the test.
Yes. Because amylase is excreted through the kidneys, it can also be measured from a urine sample (urine amylase) just as in the blood. In most cases, blood and urine amylase values are evaluated together.
