Anti-HIV Test

General Information About the Test

The Anti-HIV (ELISA Test) is the most fundamental screening test that detects antibodies produced by the body against the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), the virus that causes AIDS, and sometimes detects the p24 antigen belonging to the virus. It provides the possibility of early diagnosis by measuring the immune system's response following a suspicious exposure to the virus.

Test Process and Preparation

HIV screening test processes and important considerations.

After the virus enters the body, a "window period" is required for antibodies to reach a detectable level in tests. Therefore, it is recommended to be performed not immediately after contact, but generally from the 2nd to the 4th week onwards (depending on the generation of the test used).

Anti-HIV tests are conducted in strict adherence to patient confidentiality principles (data protection laws). The results are shared exclusively with the patient and their physician.

If the screening test (ELISA) yields a positive result, an HIV diagnosis is not immediately established. For the result to be conclusive, more detailed confirmatory tests, such as the Western Blot, are requested.
