Yes. The CA 19-9 value can reach very high levels in non-cancerous conditions as well, such as gallstones, biliary tract obstructions, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), and certain liver diseases.
Fasting is not strictly required solely for the CA 19-9 test. However, since it is typically requested along with other biochemical blood tests indicating biliary tract and liver functions, an 8-10 hour fast is generally preferred.
