Vitamin D Test

General Information About the Test

Vitamin D (25-OH Vitamin D) is a vital vitamin that regulates calcium and phosphorus absorption in the body, protects bone and tooth health, and strengthens the immune system. A large part of it is synthesized when sunlight touches the skin. Measuring the Vitamin D level in the blood is done to investigate the causes of osteoporosis, muscle weakness, chronic fatigue, and a weakened immune system.

Test Process and Preparation

Vitamin D measurement and preparations for healthy bone structure.

Although it varies according to laboratory reference ranges, the general medical consensus is that a 25-OH Vitamin D level in the blood above 30 ng/mL is considered healthy and sufficient. Levels below 20 ng/mL are considered a deficiency.

It causes 'rickets', which impairs bone development in children, and 'osteomalacia' (softening of the bones) and 'osteoporosis' (brittle bones) in adults. It is also directly associated with depression and fatigue.

Since the Vitamin D test is not directly or instantly affected by food, strict fasting is not required, but when requested along with routine health screenings, giving blood on an empty stomach in the morning is preferred in practice.
