General Information About the Test
Test Process and Preparation
A low value indicates that the filtering capacity of the kidneys has decreased and there is a deterioration in kidney function (kidney failure). In healthy individuals, this value is generally 90 and above.
Kidney diseases generally do not show any symptoms until they reach the final stage (they progress silently). The eGFR value is the most reliable way to detect kidney damage at an early stage, even before symptoms begin.
Since the eGFR calculation is performed using a routine biochemistry panel (creatinine), it is generally carried out with blood drawn from the arm after an 8-10 hour fast in the morning.
