EMR is not an open surgery (operation). No incisions are made on the body. The procedure is performed internally using special devices and wire loops (snares) inserted orally (gastroscopy) or anally (colonoscopy).
Yes. For the precision of the procedure and the patient's comfort, deep sedation or, if necessary, general anesthesia is applied. The patient does not feel or remember anything during the procedure.
Depending on the size of the removed lesion and the risk status, patients can usually be discharged on the same day or be kept under observation in the hospital for 1 night as a precaution against the risk of bleeding.
