Erythrocyte Test

General Information About the Test

Erythrocytes (RBC - Red Blood Cells) are the fundamental component of our blood and are responsible for transporting vital oxygen acquired from the lungs to all tissues in the body. The erythrocyte count is the most important part of the complete blood count (Hemogram) panel. A low amount of erythrocytes in the blood indicates anemia, while a high amount indicates a thickening of the blood (polycythemia).

Test Process and Preparation

RBC measurement and evaluation of blood values.

Because the oxygen-carrying capacity is reduced, tissues cannot be adequately nourished; this leads to symptoms such as constant weakness, fatigue, pale skin, palpitations, hair loss, and shortness of breath.

When the body is deprived of oxygen, it produces more blood cells to compensate. Smoking, living at high altitudes, chronic lung diseases (COPD), or bone marrow diseases can excessively increase the erythrocyte count.

It is analyzed using a single tube of blood sample drawn from the arm (Hemogram). Although fasting is not strictly required, routine panels are preferred to be done on an empty stomach in the morning.
