Fusion Prostate Biopsy

General Information About the Test

Fusion Prostate Biopsy, also known as Smart Biopsy, is the most advanced technological method used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. It is the process of superimposing (fusing) the patient's previously taken Multiparametric Prostate MRI images with real-time Ultrasound images in three dimensions using special computer software. In this way, only suspicious tumor foci are targeted with pinpoint accuracy and zero millimeter deviation to take a sample.

Test Process and Preparation

The difference between the fusion biopsy procedure and a standard biopsy, and the application steps.
What is the difference from a classic (standard) prostate biopsy?

In a standard biopsy, the mapping of the prostate is done blindly, and a suspicious focus can be missed. In a fusion biopsy, however, because the targeted tumor coordinates from the MRI image are loaded into the system, the shot is made directly into the heart of the tumor, reducing the risk of missing cancer to near zero.

Is the procedure painful?

Because it is generally performed under mild sedation (sleep) or local anesthesia to maximize patient comfort, no pain is felt during the procedure.

Is hospitalization required after the procedure?

Fusion biopsy is an outpatient procedure. The patient is kept under observation for 1-2 hours after the procedure and can be discharged on the same day to return to their normal life.
